The Columbia University Earth Institute Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to work in the area of global crop modeling and climate change at its Morningside campus in New York City. The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will be part of an international team working to improve the responses of global crop models to atmospheric geoengineering scenarios and other perturbations including nuclear conflict or volcanic eruptions.
The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will help implement mechanistic processes including responses to diffuse radiation, ozone damage, and potentially UV impacts into LPJmL and if resources allow, also pDSSAT. Atmospheric geoengineering implications for global crop productivity is an emerging research field and remains largely unexplored, offering excellent opportunities for high-impact publications. The work will be integrated into the AgMIP global gridded crop modeling initiative (GGCMI), a highly collaborative and active research community with international visibility.
The Postdoctoral Research Scientist is expected to present findings at national and/or international scientific conferences, and to prepare successful peer-reviewed publications in well-known scientific journals. The Postdoctoral Research Scientist must be a skilled crop modeler with experience in global crop impact analyses, ideally with existing experience using process-based models. Good coding skills are a requirement (e.g. C, R, Python) as is the ability to identify biophysical processes that can be implemented into the model(s).
This is a two year position appointed annually, contingent upon performance and funding.
