Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate I for the the Brain Health Institute, within Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of faculty member, the Research Associate I is responsible for the independent conduct of a significant element of a larger research activity. The Research Associate I also performs various research and clinical technical operations independently or as assigned, relating to investigatory activities of a laboratory, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs advanced and complex experiments to examine how the orexin system interacts with stress and reward circuitries, and how this changes in an animal model of addiction.
Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the clinical and research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
Generates, compiles, and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidate should have strong knowledge of rodent behavior or brain immunohistochemistry.
Experience in brain substrates of addiction using advanced behavioral economic and other behavioral and neurotransduction approaches in rat drug self-administration models.
Candidate should have a strong work ethic, and problem-solving skills, be a good collaborator, and have a demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a line of research and to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams.
Candidate must demonstrate the ability to be well organized, attention to detail, and be able to manage multiple projects at once by prioritizing their time to meet deadlines.
Candidate should be computer literate, and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to exert force up to 25 lbs.
