Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Team Supervisor (Patient Access) for the Practice Management department at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ).
The Team Supervisor plans, organizes and manages the daily activities of the Patient Access areas at CINJ. Supervises all personnel in area of accountability in accordance with Rutgers guidelines. Participates in performance improvement activities and monitors benchmarks in order to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of services. Functions as a senior staff member, handling both routine and complex issues and problems. Demonstrates competency in assisting patients and families regarding scheduling, medical records and CINJ access issues in all age categories from neonates through geriatrics and all populations with an emphasis on cancer.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Supervises the daily operations of the assigned patient access teams in the Patient Access areas of CINJ.
Provides guidance to the Switchboard Operators, Medical Records Principal Clerks, Program Assistants and Patient Access Representatives.
Allocates work assignments and monitors accuracy and performance of completed work. Functions as a senior staff member, handling both routine and complex issues and problems.
Performs the job responsibilities of Switchboard Operator, Medical Records Principal Clerk, Program Assistant and Patient Access Representative, as required.
Maintains staff scheduling to ensure that all operational functions are covered for every area, and department work is done within the appointed deadlines.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in admitting/patient intake in a hospital or ambulatory setting.
Prior experience with practice management computerized software applications.
Knowledge on how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
Equivalent education, experience and /or training may be submitted for the degree requirement.

Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills required for working in a service environment.
Ability to provide guidance and leadership to employees.
Ability to respond to common inquiries from patients and respond effectively to most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and/or the general public.
Excellent organizational skills.
Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and the internet.
Outstanding human relations and leadership skills and the ability to function in a team environment.
