The El-Naggar Biophysics Laboratory at the University of Southern California invites applications for a part-time Specialized Laboratory Technician. Our laboratory includes a diverse team of biophysicists, chemists, and microbiologists working on understanding and harnessing the electron transfer activity of microorganisms. In anticipation of the laboratoryâs move to new custom-built facility at Michelson Hall, we are currently searching for an energetic team member who has a keen interest and demonstrated experience in environmental microbiology and molecular techniques. Under supervision of the PI, the qualified candidate is expected to coordinate the laboratory move, setup (or re-setup) complex experimental apparatus, and assist in maintenance and operation of laboratory instrumentation including anaerobic instrumentation (gas manifolds, chambers), microscopes, and other specialized equipment.
The candidate will be expected to independently undertake and train students on technical laboratory procedures, such as cell culturing and molecular biology techniques. Attention to detail and communication skills are critical for this position, as the successful candidate will assist in organizational laboratory duties, including purchasing of laboratory supplies, developing standard procedures, coordinating sample exchanges with collaborators, and maintaining a safe lab environment in accordance with environmental health and biosafety regulations. Previous experience in microbiology, molecular techniques (handling DNA, RNA, proteins), microscopy, and specialized laboratory setups is expected.
This is a 50% part-time, grant-funded position.
