The Director is responsible for providing strategic and innovative planning, development and implementation of all campus health and wellness initiatives, while creating a culture of wellness for the campus community.
Summary of Duties
Develop priorities and goals for the counseling services office in support of student development objectives and the academic mission of the College.
Supervise, lead and manage the Counseling and Wellness Center Office.
Provide leadership and supervision to professional, student, administrative and part-time staff that assures the highest standards of professional and ethical care.
Provide clinical leadership in the development of policies and procedures and assure up to date and disease specific protocols are in place.
Oversee the daily operations of the counseling services office including office budget.
Analyze CWC procedures and techniques; conduct periodic needs assessments to ensure quality of service.
2. Determine and oversee clinical model for the CWC
Maintain a limited caseload.
Provide appropriate psychological services that address a full range of issues.
Oversee crisis coverage plan for after-hours mental health emergencies.
Administer psychological and other screening instruments as appropriate.
Refer to appropriate outside resources for long-term therapy and/or issue-specific therapists and refer to and coordinate with treating/medicating psychopharmacologists when appropriate.
3. Supervision and Training
Provide supervision to clinical staff.
Supervise and conduct recruitment, selection, orientation and development of graduate interns. Plan and conduct professional development training for CWC staff.
Provide regular campus-wide training and workshops as needed, with an emphasis on educating faculty, staff and students to make appropriate referrals to the Counseling Services.
4. Administrative Tasks
Work collaboratively with the Student Development Division and other offices that require input from a mental health expert; i.e. Academic Resource Center, Office of Compliance, Academic Affairs, Justice, Equity and Transformation (JET).
Maintain and update appropriate off campus resources, files and resource library relevant to the needs of college-age students. Conduct research and prepare reports as requested by the Dean of Students, such as caseload statistics and volume and scope of Counseling Services' activities. Conduct other research as necessary and useful to the College.
Collect, store and maintain client records in accordance with state and federal laws and standards of professional ethics so that the highest level of client confidentiality may be maintained.
Develop and promote the Counseling Services as a college resource by communicating information about services and policies to prospective students, families and faculty.
Serve as liaison to other offices/departments and serve on Student Development/campus committees as needed.
Attend/assist with College functions of general importance to student body or College (e.g. Orientation, Commencement, etc.).
5. Health Services & Health Insurance
Supervise medical director of third-party health service provider.
Provide oversight of health insurance waiver process.
Provide oversight for immunization records for all incoming full-time students and compile annual report for DPH as per state law.
Collaborate with Student Development and Administration & Finance to manage Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) for the College.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned (Search Committees, Governance Committee, projects, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred - Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program. Experience working collaboratively with College faculty, administration and staff Excellent clinical skills. Strong customer/student relationship management skills and demonstrated commitment to student learning and diversity. Demonstrated ability to provide vision, training, supervision, and leadership to a small but growing staff. Interest and experience providing services to a multicultural population. Ability to communicate successfully with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
Education: MSW, PhD or PsyD Independent Licensure or Licensure – eligible in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Experience: 8-10 years post-degree clinical experience (preferably including 5 years of experience at a college or College Counseling Center)
