Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a motivated User Support Specialist IV for the Office of Computing & Technology within the School of Public Health (SPH).
Under the direction of the Manager of the Office of Computing and Technology, the User Support Specialist IV supports the SPH end-user community (faculty, staff, students) in the effective access and use of University information resources and compliance with infrastructure and operating standards. The primary purpose of the User Support Specialist IV position is to provide support for all technical questions concerning desktop software and hardware.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides basic personal computer support functions for all SPH Computer Laboratories.
Provides IT helpdesk/customer service tasks such as hardware/software troubleshooting, smart classroom A/V support.
Maintains the SPH website via simple edits and updates.
Relates with the end-user community within the school in a manner that promotes confidence in the client as a professional service-oriented organization.
Answers end-user questions or researches and responds to the question within an appropriate time.
Provides and records educational content through seminars, lectures, or other mechanisms as required by OCT Leadership.
A working knowledge of Mediasite recorders for live streaming and integrated content capture for complete automation
Provides one-on-one end-user problem resolution remotely or in person for the school's end user environment.
Diagnoses and resolves end-user network or local printer problems, computer hardware/software problems, e-mail, Internet, and local-area network access problems, mobile devices (Smartphones and tablets), approved applications.
Coordinates timely repair or replacement of current hardware (desktop, laptop, printer, mobility) and critical software upgrades covered by third-party vendor maintenance agreements.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or computer technology technical school is required.
At least one (1) year of experience in the use of desktop computing.
Experience with imaging software, thin client technology, and general networking concepts such as IP stacks and wireless is required.
Experience with a Microsoft domain infrastructure, configuring laptops, and mobile devices for wireless network, email (MS Outlook and collaboration tools).
Must have experience with Symantec Antivirus and Virtual Private Networks is required.
Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have general PC knowledge.
Mechanical skills appropriate to perform the entry-level desktop computer support.
Ability to keep up with all industry standards and trends pertaining to desktops within SPH is required.
Familiarity with academic and public health environment applications is required.
The candidate should possess experience in delivering technical and/or analytical support to administrative, research, clinical and administrative missions within a biomedical, academic environment.
A general computing knowledge in the following areas is necessary: Win, Mac, UNIX (both desktop and laptops), networking desktop and laptops computers using IP stack, Configure Local and Networks printer (HP Jet Direct), Androids and IPhones.
Must keep abreast of industry trends and changes in software and hardware technologies in order to improve service levels and advance the use of appropriate technologies.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
