The West Virginia University School of Pharmacy is seeking applications for a 12-month, post-graduate training opportunity for residency-trained pharmacists (Academic Post Doctoral Fellow) who are interested in a career in academia to obtain advanced teaching, service and research experience at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. The Academic Post Doctoral Fellow is expected to contribute in the areas of teaching, service, and research.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Participate in course development and implementation by serving as co-course coordinator each semester in conjunction with experienced faculty.
Participate in skills/practicum portion of courses, including facilitating practicum sessions, assessment of current practicum sessions, and development of new educational activities.
Assist in the organization, development, facilitation and evaluation of OSCEs throughout the curriculum.
Co-precept PharmD students on academic teaching and ambulatory care rotations (spring semester).
Develop and present large group lectures as needed for various courses.
Develop and present at least one continuing education presentation to pharmacists
Enhance clinical practice skills by participating in patient care in an ambulatory care setting 1.5-2 days per week.
Serve on at least one School of Pharmacy and/or Health Sciences Center committee.
Serve on the School of Pharmacy Assessment Committee and assist with identifying and analyzing assessment data obtained throughout the curriculum.
Participate in interprofessional education (IPE) and population health initiatives in conjunction with service learning projects and student organizations.
Advance pharmacy practice and patient care through advocacy and regulatory affairs via the integral relationship with the WVU SOP Wigner Institute for Advanced Pharmacy Practice, Education and Research and the WV Board of Pharmacy.
Develop and complete two research projects; one related to the scholarship of teaching and learning and one related to clinical practice. Fellow will also be expected to present at a professional meeting and submit at least one manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal prior to the end of the fellowship.
Collaborate with faculty to support the scholarship and research missions of the school.
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited institution.
Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency program.
Displays interest in becoming a full-time, part-time, or adjunct faculty member at a college of pharmacy.
Demonstrates excellence in interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in teams to accomplish programmatic objectives.
High level of enthusiasm for didactic and clinical teaching, and the interpersonal skills needed for interacting effectively with students and faculty.
Demonstrates commitment to the professional development of students.
Strong commitment to the growth of the profession evidenced by passion for the profession, teaching and curricular development.
Organizational, and time management skills.
Licensed pharmacist or eligible for licensure in West Virginia.
