Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Student Activities and the Stevenson Union, the Coordinator will seek, implement, and support programs and initiatives for all SOU learners to live the vision, mission, and values of the University with a leadership development lens. The position emphasizes empowering learners to lead lives of purpose based on their personal values, desires, and academic interests while developing an understanding of how learners can grow and adapt in an ever-changing world.

The Coordinator works directly and collaboratively with students and student organizations to provide co-curricular, inclusive, and equity-focused programing. The Coordinator advises the Student Programming Board, EPIC, provides oversight and support to approximately 70 registered student organizations, and supports the development of new student clubs and organizations. This position directly supervises a 0.5 FTE professional staff member who assists with student organization funding and travel, five Student Engagement Specialists (student-staff) that support the Student Activities Office and other project-based student workers. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance to applicable laws and policies, as well as assessment of applicable programs. The Coordinator will possess a thorough understanding of student identity development, how to support underrepresented students, and share a commitment to social and racial justice. The Coordinator will advocate and advise students from diverse backgrounds and be committed to equity for all students. The Coordinator must employ empowered, intentional, and theoretically informed student development processes to promote Raider identity, healthy student development, engaged civil discourse, and dynamic organizational development.

Minimum Classification Qualifications:

●Bachelor's degree required.
●Two years of experience working in an academic environment.
●Direct experience working with student organizations
●Four or more years of experience in the area of recruitment, event planning, advising student organizations, and leadership development in higher education setting.
●Experience with program development, policy development, and training that fosters
leadership growth.

Preferred Qualifications:

●Master's degree in student development, higher education, counseling and guidance,
multicultural student development, or related field.
●Previous professional experience working in Student Activities, Student Life, or Student Affairs.
●Experience managing budgets and working in student fee funding processes.

Registered Student Organizations:

Serves as the primary contact in Student Activities for students who wish to start a club or organization. Assists with education on guidelines and processes.

Serves as the primary advisor to the Club Board of Directors, the student funding board for most student organizations on campus. Attends student senate and student fee committee meetings as needed. Responsible for development of annual registered student organization training and advisor training of approximately 70 student organizations on campus.

Oversees SOU Connect (Presence), a student engagement online platform for all student organization and event related processes. Supervise a PT professional staff member and five Student Engagement Specialists (student-staff) supporting student organization funding and travel.

Manages the annual Club Fairs and promotes opportunities for student organizational development and engagement on campus.

Educates on liability, risk management, and individual organizational standing/relationship with SOU.

Ensures club and organizational expenditures, fundraising, and contracts are in compliance with University policy and processes.

Provides oversight and advising to Multicultural Student Unions related to incidental fee funding, fundraising, planning, and risk management related to all events on and off campus.

Assists all student organizations with funding requests through the incidental fee process. May assist with form, budgets entry, narrative development, and presentations as needed.

Student Events:

Serves as the advisor to EPIC Events, Student Programming Board, which develops and implements campus events that foster a respectful and inclusive community on campus.

Serves as the point of contact for unaffiliated student organizations and events, including students electing to develop or promote events that are not associated with a sanctioned student organization. Assists unsanctioned organizations as they pursue formal sanctioning process.

Serves as primary support staff for large student life activities, such as Commencement, Convocation, Raider Registration, Week of Welcome, Homecoming, and other events as assigned.

Facilitates free expression by proactively serving as a Civil Expressions Facilitator to monitor campus events that develop as civil protests or as exercises in free speech. This specialized role will assist, provide support, provide education, safeguard participants, and safeguard the campus community and the essential functions of the University.
