UMBC is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to become the next Director of the Alex. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship. UMBC believes that entrepreneurship is the ability of an individual to identify a goal, provide the leadership, and mobilize the assets necessary to reach that goal. As such, individuals taking the risk to push the envelope in science and technology, break ground in the creative arts, or craft new solutions to society’s problems are all entrepreneurs. The next Director of The Alex. Brown Center will be passionate educator, committed to supporting students as they explore concepts of entrepreneurship, and develop the skills and networks critical to success in entrepreneurial endeavor.
Responsibilities:
The director will be responsible for all elements of the Center’s activities. Key responsibilities include the following:
Developing and delivering programs that expose students and faculty the concepts of entrepreneurship including speaker series, CEO roundtables, and formal and formal mentoring activities;
Coordinating the work of the Alex. Brown Faculty Fellows, who facilitate the UMBC Entrepreneurship Minor;
Partnering with the Faculty Fellows and academic leadership to award Entrepreneurship and Innovation Curriculum Grants, and to support the development of novel academic courses designed to prepare students for entrepreneurial activity;
Coordinating signature Alex. Brown programs including the annual UMBC IDEA Competition, the Cangailosi Business Plan Competition, and the Shattuck Entrepreneurial Internship Program; and developing new programs designed to meet the evolving needs of the UMBC community.
Partnering with campus stakeholders including UMBC’s research and technology park BWtech@UMBC, the Office of Technology Development, colleges, the Career Services Center, the Office of Alumni Engagement to develop programs, build networks that amplify the Center’s work, and secure resources support the on-going work of the Center
Manage the day-to-day business affairs of the Alex. Brown Center, including the budget.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a proven leader and mentor, with a demonstrated record as an entrepreneur or will have played a role in actively supporting and incubating entrepreneurial activity. The ideal candidate will have transferred these experiences into an academic setting, and will have designed and delivered innovative programs and initiatives for students and faculty. He/she will be detail-focused project manager with strong written and verbal communication skills. A bachelors degree is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters or terminal degree is preferred.
