GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and/or deliver Introduction to Solar Energy (ENV173) in an online format. Students in this course gain an understanding of our solar energy resource and how it can be utilized for a variety of energy demand applications in residential, commercial, and municipal buildings. The benefits and limitations of various solar energy technologies that are commonly used to produce heat, hot water, and electricity are examined. Students learn how to properly site, size, design, and specify solar hot water and solar electric systems. Students also learn how to perform an economic and environmental analysis of proposed systems. Course to be delivered in 2021 Spring Semester. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master's degree in environmental science or a closely related field.
2. College-level teaching experience in sustainable energy.
3. Experience developing and using multimedia (audio, video, podcasts, etc.) to enhance student engagement in active and collaborative learning.
4. Experience using evidence based best practices associated with online learning pedagogy (e.g., frequent communication, active learning practices) that support student success in ubiquitous spaces.
5. Experience teaching a diverse student body at a community college or similar environment.
6. Enthusiasm for and interest in excellence for the delivery of online learning.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Professional development in teaching at the community college level.
2. Experience in online teaching at a community college or similar environment.
3. Expertise teaching the necessary content knowledge in biology using a popular Learning Management System (i.e. Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard). Moodle training with respect to course organization and optimization will be provided, as needed.
4. Documentation of professional development in online course design and pedagogy through Quality Matters or equivalent program, or willingness to complete Quality Matters online professional development program provided through Cape Cod Community College, including the following modules:

• Teaching Online: An Introduction to Online Delivery (TOL)
• Creating Presence in your Online Course Design 
• Evaluating Your Course Design

COMPENSATION: Compensation for developing this online course is $500/credit hour.  Compensation for course delivery will be in accordance with the DCE/MCCC Contract (Memorandum of Agreement, Distance Education). Completion of the Quality Matters online professional development program earns a stipend of $250.
