The incumbent provides technical and operational management support for the Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics Laboratory in assigned areas. Directly supervises laboratory technical and administrative functions for a distinct operational unit consisting of technologists who perform a wide variety of laboratory duties including, but not limited to preanalytical processes and testing through data analysis and reporting. Manages productivity, technical performance of specimen processing and laboratory testing and efficient operations of equipment. Position may have Lab Supervisor(s) reporting to it. Performs bench testing as needed. This individual will oversee all technical functions in the Karyotype and FISH areas, including setting up samples, culturing, performing analysis of specimens. As well as validation, documentation and implementation of FISH probes, instrumentation, establishing new Technical procedures in the laboratory, assisting in report preparation, according to current ISCN, and communicating of preliminary results to clinicians.

Bachelors' degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Current California State Cytogenetics CLS License.
At least 10 years of laboratory experience in both karyotype and FISH study of cancer samples.
Thorough knowledge of all relevant sub-specialty area industry, health and safety, federal, and state regulations.
Must be willing to testify in court regarding testing activities if subpoenaed.
Maintains technical proficiency in laboratory techniques and procedures. Knowledge of management theory, economic impact and management functions. Proven ability to apply technical knowledge and skills to improve operations and management.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment. Flexibility to adapt to change.
Ability to organize division operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving Laboratory processes, procedures, and systems.
Skills to work collaboratively, coordinate and integrate with others in other laboratories, departments, and throughout the organization. Successful background working with all groups: peers, scientists, multidisciplinary team members, executives, assigned staff.
Proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution. Demonstrates sound judgement.
Verbal and written communication skills in English to effectively communicate through all mediums and with all groups. Demonstrated abilities to listen actively, persuade, advise, and counsel.
Knowledge of laboratory application information system. Ability to analyze data using queries and visual review.
Advanced knowledge of karyotype and FISH laboratory techniques with emphasis on set-up, culture, analysis and reporting results of specimens such as bone marrows, leukemic bloods, FFPE tissues.
Must be willing to work variable shifts and hours required and/or needed.
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of pertinent cytogenetics (karyotype and FISH) laboratory experience.
Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a supervisor in a clinical cytogenetics laboratory.
Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory, medical center, HR and UC policies and processes.
