Research: Assists in planning steps in molecular biology research and coordinates projects within the lab. Participate and present in weekly lab meetings. Assist in management of the mouse colony, including handling, breeding, weaning, genotyping, and euthanasia.
Conduct Experiments : Prepare samples to obtain original research results. Perform molecular and cell biology techniques including PCR, Western blot, DNA/RNA isolations, immunohistochemistry, and protein assays. Perform paraffin tissue embedding and dissection. Harvest murine embryos.
Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications : Prepare data for analysis and assist in research and writing for the publication of manuscripts.
Administrative and Project Management : Order supplies and maintain supply cabinet including production of buffers and stock solutions. Organize regular cleaning schedules of key research areas. Participate in weekend lab checks of freezers, incubators and other key equipment .
Facilities and Equipment Management : Assist in the maintenance of lab equipment.
Supervision/Staffing : Assist graduate students in the lab.
Requires the academic knowledge of a discipline plus the ability to translate, adapt and apply this knowledge that is generally associated with a Bachelor's degree (Biology, Biochemistry, or Genetics preferred). Candidates must be highly motivated to learn and conduct basic research and willing to work hard. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also required.
It is highly desirable that candidates have experience with: mouse handling, genotyping, DNA/RNA isolations, PCR, and Western blotting. Experience with immunohistochemistry, tissue harvesting and embedding, paraffin section, and protein assays are also highly desirable.
