Detailed Job Description Reporting to the Associate Vice President of University Advancement, and serving as a member of the Vice President's senior leadership team, the Assistant Vice President for Regional Advancement (AVP) provides leadership and strategic guidance to a regionally deployed major gift fundraising staff. The AVP works closely with university senior administrators, department leadership and advancement colleagues to raise the necessary support for identified priorities. He/she manages a portfolio of approximately 70-90 prospects, creates fundraising strategies for those prospects, develops relationships with donors, solicits gifts primarily in excess of $100,000, and coordinates effective donor stewardship. The Assistant Director of Advancement is expected to work collaboratively and constantly seek ways to increase effectiveness and efficiency to reach yearly metrics.
Oversee a regional advancement staff of 8-10, a mixture of fundraisers based in Rochester and deployed regionally, as well as a small number of fundraisers based remotely.
Lead the regional advancement team in planning and implementing long- and short-term strategies to secure gifts from individuals through major, planned, and annual gifts.
Working with the VP and Associate VP, establish measurable goals to increase fundraising results that are both aspirational and achievable.
Promote an organizational culture that encourages and rewards collaboration across the division and the university.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major and principal gift donors and prospects in coordination with faculty, staff, and volunteers through the proper clearance process.
Manage a portfolio of approximately 70-90 prospects, creating fundraising strategies for those prospects, and regularly solicit gifts of $100,000 and higher.
Mentor, train, supervise, and evaluate staff; stay abreast of best practices in the development profession, evaluating new and emerging ideas for possible implementation.
Make appropriate use of time and resources; plan travel efficiently; continuously update the prospect management database with information related to donor strategies, proposals, contacts, and results.
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of University Advancement.
Required Minimum Qualifications Please note: Travel required; some evenings and weekends required
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible development experience, with success as both a manager and frontline fundraiser, ideally in a higher education setting
Proven ability to provide leadership, management, and strategic direction
A leadership style that creates strong teams who are motivated and focused on achieving goals
Personal experience and demonstrated success as a major gift and principal gift fundraiser
Proven success in building productive relationships with university senior administrators, volunteers, colleagues, donors, and more
Travel required; some evenings and weekends required
Sophisticated interpersonal skills
Excellent written and oral communication skill
