The Division currently has 20 attending faculty physicians and additional Advanced Practice Providers (APNs). The Division of Pediatric Critical Care at Feinberg School of Medicine and Ann & Robert H. The Lurie Children’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is one of the largest in the United States, with 60 PICU beds. The latest interventions and treatments are available in the PICU, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), specialty ventilation techniques and post-transplant care. We also work closely with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit, and the NeuroCritical Care Program. The division has a robust, ACGME-accredited three-year fellowship program with 13 fellows, providing comprehensive training for pediatricians in the scientific and clinical practice of pediatric critical care medicine. In addition, there is a breadth of research efforts in the Division of Critical Care, including clinical, basic science, translational research, and population health and bioethics research. The Division also recognizes that the most important path to achieving better outcomes for children with complex medical needs lies in the development of novel diagnostic treatment approaches. The IGNITE innovation program based in the PICU is forging partnerships that extend beyond the walls of the hospital to find innovative solutions to advancing care and efficiency in the treatment of critically ill children.
