Serves as the primary contact, via telephone or email, with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, University officials and the general public to share information concerning student billing, fee assessments and other bursar account inquiries. Analyzes accounts and initiates appropriate adjustments, reviews and researches financial aid eligibility and disbursement requirements, negotiates repayment of debt and issues short term promissory notes and issues clearances for financial service restrictions. Analyzes, researches and assists in the collection of student accounts, facilitates resolution of problems with account data and mediates (acts as a student advocate) between University departments. This position serves the IUPUI, IUPUC and IU Fort Wayne campuses and students.
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of related experience in customer service.
Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with a wide diversity of individuals. Excellent math aptitude. Interpersonal skills with excellent customer service orientation. Account balancing and depositing experience. Telephone etiquette and computer experience, including Microsoft Office products, specifically, Windows, Word, Outlook/Exchange, and Excel.
Some college. Accounting experience. Knowledge of the Indiana University Student Information System (SIS), OneStart student portal and Oncourse is highly desirable.
Working Conditions / Demands
Long term working at a computer, travelling between offices and campus locations. The employee in this position is required to communicate by telephone and electronic mail (email) with clients and other staff. May also be required to travel to other campus locations to attend student orientation to meet with prospective students and parents. Constant use of a computer keyboard and repetitive keystrokes. This position requires a minimum of eight hours of intense concentration every day. It requires long hours at a computer to analyze information and make accurate and timely decisions under pressure.
