The Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences (CDS) is an interdisciplinary academic unit comprising scholars and researchers who are solely appointed in that unit as well as faculty with joint appointments in various schools and colleges at BU. CDS' mission is to be a catalyst for synergy and integration of research and education programs in computing and data sciences across the landscape of academic disciplines at BU. Founded in 2019 and housed in an iconic 19-story building to be completed in 2022, CDS complements and connects traditional academic disciplines through the language of computation and data. In support of the University's strategic goals, CDS is laying the foundation for promoting innovation-driven and civic-minded computing through thematic Impact Labs that act as catalysts for maximizing the real-world impact of its research, curricular, and co-curricular programs.
Among a number of planned undergraduate and graduate programs, CDS has launched its first academic program for doctoral education in computing and data sciences and will be welcoming its first cohort of PhD students, starting in Fall 2021, with other degree and non-degree programs to launch soon after as CDS build up its faculty membership. The Academic Programs Manager for CDS will play a central role in launching CDS' planned programs and in developing the blueprints of the organizational structure necessary to expand these programs.
We seek a dynamic and goals-oriented individual who is able to work both independently and be part of a team in an exciting new interdisciplinary academic unit. The role requires exceptional organizational skills, the ability to engage effectively with faculty members and administrative staff in CDS, in other cognate units, and in the Provost Office, as well as working closely with and helping young people along their academic, professional, and life journeys. As such, this role is expected to contribute significantly to the creation of a vibrant and supportive student community and culture. In light of the expected fast-paced development of CDS faculty, programs, and administrative infrastructure, this role is expected to evolve with significant career development opportunities for a successful candidate.
