The postdoctoral appointee will conduct research as part of a newly funded NIH grant proposal. The research will focus on understanding the physiological significance of protein acetylation of histone-like proteins in Bacillus subtilis and the enzymatic mechanisms that control it. There are opportunities for multiple different research projects and experience with various state-of-the-art techniques.
The postdoctoral appointee is expected to perform independent research, analyze and interpret results, develop new research ideas or techniques, and effectively communicate laboratory results through written publications and oral/poster presentations at appropriate scientific meetings. In addition, the appointee will supervise and mentor students or other personnel in the laboratory.
A PhD in Microbiology or Molecular biology, or a related discipline is required. Experience with basic microbiology laboratory skills, bacterial genetics and manipulation, cloning and fluorescence microscopy is preferred. Experience with protein purification, in vitro assays, large dataset analysis or mass-spectrometry based proteomics is not required, but considered a plus. A strong publication record and presentation of works at regional, national or international meetings is desired.
