Vanderbilt University's Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking a strategic, collaborative, experienced, and entrepreneurial leader to serve as the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving for the Owen Graduate School of Management (SDAE&AG).
Reporting to Owen DAR's Associate Dean, the SDAE&AG will serve as a partner and participant on the Owen School DAR team. They will determine the strategic direction, key performance indicators, organizational design, and long-term tactical goals for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving for the Owen School. This person will be responsible for providing a dynamic environment in which alumni, donors, parents, and friends are connected to the school and thoughtfully stewarded, creative ideas towards achieving stretch goals are encouraged, and institutional collaboration is a priority.
In support of Owen's varied programs, the SDAE&AG will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all aspects of Owen's alumni engagement and annual giving programs, many of which have transitioned to virtual opportunities and activities. They will supervise the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving and Assistant Director of Volunteer Outreach. This position leads and provides direction to Owen's two alumni boards, Owen Annual Fund, Owen Circle (annual giving society), class agent and class secretary programs, global alumni programing, among other responsibilities that will help increase the Owen alumni network and strengthen the school's financial position. Significant to success will be understanding and embracing strategies across the school and its varied programs.
The Department of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) assists Vanderbilt University in securing the resources, both human and financial, that are required to achieve its mission and goals. The Department is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals and organizations whose charitable objectives are consistent with those of Vanderbilt University's teaching and research programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide leadership, management oversight, and strategic guidance for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving. These two departments are crucial to DAR and Owen's overall success and are most effective when working together seamlessly.
Develop, lead, and execute a strategic plan for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving that incorporates opportunities with DAR, university and school stakeholders.
Design virtual engagement opportunities, the Alumni Fireside Series, and Closing Bells for alumni, parents and supporters that offer relevant themes and feature the world-class Owen faculty and alumni panelists.
Work collaboratively with Owen's Dean and Associate Dean DAR to develop synchronized engagement and annual giving strategies.
Strengthen relationships and work collaboratively with DAR colleagues and Owen School partners including the Dean's Office, Career Management Center, Admissions, Marketing and Communications, and student organizations to orchestrate alumni connectivity.
Work diligently to understand, embrace, and develop DAR's unique messaging to proliferate Owen's mission.
Lead, mentor, and inspire the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving and Assistant Director of Volunteer Outreach through a combination of transparency, effective communication and modeling of collaborative behavior.
Possess strong track record of working with teams to envision, orchestrate, and execute strategic initiatives that will increase engagement and financial results.
Encourage colleagues to exceed expectations, benchmark, and initiate industry best practices.
Be willing to mentor and partner with highly motivated Owen DAR advancement professionals.

Oversee the Owen Annual Fund program, which includes Owen Circle (giving society) class agents, class secretaries, student giving campaigns and faculty and staff giving campaigns. Included in this portfolio is the annual giving gifts both Owen Alumni and Owen Asia Alumni Boards members are required to make.
Provide strategic direction to bolster overall annual giving participation and total dollars raised while supervising the Assistant Director of Volunteer Outreach.
Coordinate and collaborate with DAR undergraduate annual giving programs.
Set the vision and strategy for fundraising/cultivation programs using goals/objectives and a timeline to develop short and long-term plans to increase donors and dollars raised school wide.
Stay ahead of trends, changes, and innovations in the areas of email marketing, tele-marketing, crowdfunding, giving day activities, digital space, and other evolving annual giving strategies.
Take overall responsibility for the Owen Annual Fund budget, meeting annual giving metrics and long-term strategic planning for the Owen Annual Fund.
Manage Owen Alumni and Owen Asia Alumni Board, including organizing the meetings, assisting the Chair of the Board with strategies for Alumni Board engagement, directing the overall strategy for the Board's activities and serving as point of contact between Board members and Owen.
Organize and oversee the Owen Reunion Weekend to include reunion events, speakers and donor reception.
Organize and oversee the informational sessions (Lunch & Learn) to all Owen soon-to-be graduates. This includes day, EMBA & MMHC students.
Serve as Owen Development and Alumni Relations liaison to the Vanderbilt Business magazine serving on its editorial board and providing timely and informative information on Owen alumni who should be profiled.
Serve as Owen Development and Alumni Relations liaison to the Vanderbilt University Alumni Relations team to provide insight into possible avenues for collaboration and efficiency.
Initiate and manage Owen's Annual Distinguished Alumni Award process.
Organize and maintain Owen's domestic and international Closing Bell program which features volunteer driven events in most major tier and some second tier US and international cities.
Manage and maintain Owen's on-campus Fireside Speaker Series which features distinguished Owen alumni sharing their story through a more intimate Walker Management Library fireside experience with Owen current students.
In conjunction with Owen's marketing department, manage and improve Owen's alumni portion of its website to include calendar updates and information helpful to Owens's alumni base regarding alumni events and programmatic events within the school.
Manage the Alumni Relations budget
