We are seeking a Bioinformatics Specialist to join The Kenneth Offit Lab working closely with Vijai Joseph . This is an entry-level position working with other faculty, students and postdocs. The right individual will be responsible for analysis of large scale cancer germline and tumor next generation sequencing and microarray data sets. The position allows you to build algorithms and contribute to software development. Existing bioinformatics pipelines as part of the CGRL/Niehaus Center will need to be run and updated as per current trends. The position necessitates the ability to multitask on projects as well as produce results in a timely fashion, sometimes with rapid turn-around times with limited supervision.
Research in the laboratory focuses on the discovery and characterization of novel cancer predisposing genes in humans, including both common and rare variants. We conduct studies to describe phenotype, penetrance, modifying effect, and clinical outcomes associated with germline genetic alterations in cancer patients and their families. In addition, our research focuses on the interpretation and clinical translation of results of massively parallel sequencing of germline genomes in cancer-prone kindreds.
Develop, benchmark and implement novel analysis approaches and softwares
Maintain, modify and version track in-house code and pipelines. Analyze sequencing data using established workflows
Perform statistical analysis of large sequencing and genotyping datasets in diverse cancer cohorts.
Assist in management of internal data as well as aggregate large externally available data sets including public and dbGAP resources.
Expertise in germline and tumor sequencing. Additional knowledge of RNA-Seq would be preferred.
Document progress and updates using JIRA and SOPs on Confluence.
Experience with programming skill, such as R, Python, MatLab, etc.
