The International Student Advisor provides direct immigration-related advising to international students at the college, with a focus on maintaining and tracking immigration information for all F-1 students.
• Advise international students regarding immigration rules and regulations and serve as a main contact for questions; • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) to federal programs governing the support of international students; • Create, update, and manage records in the SEVIS system; • Assist with planning and implementation of international student orientation processes; • Create, update, and manage records in the federally-administered SEVIS system; • Liaise with other departments to confirm and verify student attendance and related data; • Co-advise International Student Associate and support international programming efforts; • Maintain immigration-related student files in compliance with regulations; • Coordinate and implement events that support the educational, cultural and social needs of the students; • Advise students on employment preparation, timelines and regulatory requirements.
Skills & Knowledge • Ability to meet regulatory eligibility to be a DSO/ARO; • Knowledge of immigration-related law, Dept. of Homeland Security, Dept. of State regulations and procedures; • Cross-cultural communication skills; • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Banner); • Ability to efficiently multitask and prioritize with demanding timeframes; • Strong analytical problem solving, and organization skills.
Experience • Experience interacting with SEVIS strongly preferred • Experience working with international students or clients
Education Bachelor’s degree (Master degree in a related field strongly preferred)
