The Viterbi Advancement Corporate and Foundation Relations program provides coordination across all offices and units in the Viterbi School in partnering with corporations and foundations. The success of the program depends on the identification and cultivation of new prospects, as well as the continuation of sustained relationships with existing partners. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean, the Executive Director will engage in creative and strategic thinking about the course of identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, and be able to develop such strategies and assist in their execution. The position requires excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, solid knowledge of the discipline of engineering and engineering education, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across disciplinary and interdisciplinary lines, and to interact successfully with a diverse constituency of varying abilities, backgrounds, interests and beliefs. The Executive Director will also prepare, write and/or work with writers to develop and present proposals to corporations and foundations. The incumbent must be willing and able to travel to meet with prospects and donors to further the objectives of the program. Occasional weekends and evenings events and air travel is required.
Responsibilities and Outcomes Expected:Â
Corporate and Foundation Development:
Under the direction of the Senior Associate Dean and in concert with Central Advancement, develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising campaign plan.Â
Develop revenue target with Senior Associate Deanâs guidance, and comply with expenditure guidelines.
Administer and pursue corporate academic partnerships and serve as the single point of contact for corporate relations within the School.
Collaborate with faculty to enhance their research collaboration with corporations and foundations.
Collaborate with the academic deans to enhance the engineering education collaboration with corporations and foundations at all levels from K-12 through doctoral education.
Manage the Viterbi Corporate Advisory Board and liaise with the Viterbi Corporate Council.
Function as liaison between Viterbi and Central Advancement on corporate and foundation relation matters.
Participate in strategic planning, write narrative justifications in support of the fundraising master plan and identify resources needed to support it.Â
Ensure compliance with university fundraising policies, goals, and procedures.Â
Carry a portfolio of gift prospects and work closely with Senior Associate Dean to identify, research, and set strategies for new principal gift prospects.Â
Ensure an effective stewardship plan for donors that is functional, systematically implemented and uses university best practices.Â
Define goals, objectives, and metrics for the Office of Corporate and Foundations Relations.Â
Coordinate development research, data integrity and prospect management. Build a large prospect base while engaging with prospects through visits and events, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.Â
Corporate and Foundation Development Personnel:Â
Supervise and manage corporate and foundation staff and monitor progress against annual goals and objectives.Â
Manage hiring, training, performance assessment, and salary administration for the corporate and foundation team.Â
Position Qualifications & Requirements:Â
Experienced senior fundraising professional with a demonstrated track record of fundraising success, organizational leadership, strategic planning, and budget management.Â
Good understanding of engineering and science.
Proven success at management and stewardship.Â
Highly motivated professional with solid success at achieving or surpassing ambitious fundraising targets.Â
Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and fundraising proposal writing.Â
Ability to develop and implement creative prospect and donor solicitation strategies.Â
Bachelor's Degree with minimum of 7 years experience required, preferred 10 years experience and Master's degree or higher.Â
Expertise in corporate and foundation fundraising, preferably at a complex research university. Â
Technical expertise and proven ability to work successfully with faculty.
