The Flow Cytometry Shared Resource (FCSR) personnel provide training in data interpretation, experiment design and routine instrument operation, offering investigators the cost-saving option of doing some of the work themselves. Resource personnel also support investigators by providing operator-assisted fluorescence-activated cell sorting, analytical flow cytometry and data analysis.
This position is for a flow cytometry operator at 1.0 FTE within the Flow Cytometry Shared Resource (FCSR). The preferred candidate will have multi-color flow cytometry experience, including cell preparation, equipment operation (analytical cytometer and/or cell sorter) and data analyses. A bachelors degree is required and laboratory experience in cellular and molecular biology is preferred. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is capable and willing to make maximum use of excellent facilities and a productive environment, and who is interested in developing a high level of proficiency in varied aspects of flow cytometry.

Perform sorts for resource users - sorters
Perform analytical flow cytometry studies for users analytical instruments
Perform flow cytometric analyses
Train users to use resource instrumentation and software
Review experimental design and conduct with users
Analyze flow cytometry data
Perform QC of instrumentation and troubleshoot equipment, data, or study issues
Bachelors Degree (4 yr) with major courses in field of research/No Experience OR - AA (2 yr) and 3 years of relevant experience
Experience with multi-color flow cytometry (data acquisition and analyses)
General knowledge of infectious disease risks associated with studies involving human cells and/or fluids
Biological science or chemistry experience
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time
Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal
Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Access, Word, and PowerPoint) on Window OS. Ability to accurately type 60wpm
Working knowledge of Oracle
Must have demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person
Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships
Laboratory experience in cellular and molecular biology
