The Music and Audio Research Laboratory (MARL) welcomes applications for a postdoctoral associate position on the Spatial Sound Scene Description (S3D) project. S3D is a new initiative, funded by the National Science Foundation, that aims to develop computational approaches to describe sound sources in real environments by their category (e.g. dog, truck), location, direction of motion and speed. Our approach mixes innovative data collection and machine listening solutions including probabilistic synthesis, multi-modal annotation, self-supervised representation learning and structured classification.

The duties of the postdoctoral associate include:

1. Research and development on novel single and multi-modal self-supervised learning strategies for audio;
2. Research and development on sound source classification, localization and tracking;
3. Leading research teams and mentoring students;
4. Disseminating research outcomes through publications, presentations, data and code repositories;
5. Active contribution to open code/data efforts in the lab;
6. Contribution to the development of new projects, partnerships and grants.

Terms of the position:

• This is a Full-time position based in New York City
• Preferred start date: January 2021
• Salary: $70,000/year plus benefits
