The Lab Manager will conduct experiments under the supervision of Dr. James Waters, Professor of Biology.
The Lab Manager will conduct experiments examining the thermal comparative physiology of Drosophila, focusing on developing protocols for and applying methods to measure organismal and tissue-level metabolic rates. The lab manager will work closely with faculty to carry out experiments, prepare media, rear fly cultures, communicate findings, and plan outreach events. The lab manager will supervise undergraduates engaged in research and cultivate relationships with colleagues with whom we are collaborating in a cross-institution multi-year NSF grant-funded project.
Education and Experience Required:
Required: Bachelor degree in Biology, biochemistry, genetics or related field; M.S. or PhD preferred
Experience working in a Drosophila laboratory setting, preferably with undergraduate students
Experience with fly (Drosophila) genetics and husbandry.
Relevant coursework and basic knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of Genetics, Epigenetics, and Physiology
Strong computer skills with experience using laboratory data programs
Excellent written and communication skills
Ability to be observant and self-motivated
Ability to think critically and problem-solve
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with co-workers
Ability to complete accurate records and follow detailed instructions
Must work with some hazardous chemicals
Criminal background and education check required
