The University of Tennessee is seeking an individual with a strong background in Linux system administration for the Joint Institute for Computational Sciences (JICS). JICS serves as the nexus of interdisciplinary, collaborative computational and data science and engineering research, leveraging the unique capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and the University of Tennessee. The position reports to the High Performance Computing Operations Group Leader at JICS.
Major Duties/Responsibilities: The successful candidate will play a key role in evaluating, deploying, maintaining, and leading system administration tasks/projects at JICS. The candidate will also interface with users and provide assistance to enable their successful use of JICS computing resources. Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: *Installing, configuring, and maintaining computer system software. *Diagnosing system operational problems quickly and effectively. *Documenting system administration procedures for routine and complex tasks. *Take ownership of user problems and provide resolution through research, analysis, and creation/application of new hardware and software technologies. *Proactively ensure that users have up-to-date information about the system, including any changes and their impact on the users.
