Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research position in the laboratory of Dr. Anupriya Agarwal at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, OR.
The Agarwal Lab focuses on identifying novel intrinsic- and extrinsic signaling pathways that are requisite for leukemia progression, clonal evolution, and drug resistance. The work will concentrate on the discovery and validation of new therapeutic targets in hematologic malignancies and the molecular characterization of signaling pathways involved in disease pathogenesis.
The position is in an interdisciplinary, collaborative, and highly translational environment in the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute and the Department of Hematology and Oncology in the OHSU School of Medicine. Highly-motivated candidates with expertise in molecular biology, hematopoiesis, cell signaling/ epigenetics, and in vivo models who are interested in a career in oncology basic/translational research will be most competitive for this position. We are looking for a highly-motivated individual who is capable and willing to make maximum use of excellent facilities and a productive environment and are interested in a career in oncology basic/translational research. They should have demonstrated their capabilities and enthusiasm by peer-reviewed publications.
Perform technical procedures such as electrophoresis, mammalian cell culture, DNA sub cloning and DNA purification from bacterial cultures, cell cultures and patient samples
Small animal handling experiments (primarily mice)
Think independently and problem solve. Stay on top of the literature and build skills to maximize the projects potentials.
Attend weekly laboratory meetings and 1:1 meetings to:
Present data and interpretation of results.
Troubleshoot research results.
Suggest next steps. Prepare manuscripts, present research findings as abstracts or oral presentations (travel may be required), help prepare grant applications
PhD and a minimum of 4 years as a graduate student
Molecular biology techniques required: RNAi , PCR, primer design, cell culture, transfections, transductions, Western blots, cloning, sequencing
In-depth knowledge of specific areas of responsibility
Ability to operate complex scientific equipment
Passion for science and inquiry
Ability to synthesize ones own results and others to formulate hypotheses
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time
Must have excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
Ability to work with and supervise junior staff Must be proficient with computers running Windows and PC applications e.g. MS Excel, Oracle, Access, Word and PowerPoint).
Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships
PhD degree in science or technology
Graduate work in Molecular Biology
Experience with murine models, including xenograft implantation and drug treatments
Experience with basic bioinformatics skills

Location of employment is in molecular biology research lab. Work involves possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids, presence of carcinogenic substances and human and animal tissues and fluids, including whole animals. Schedule may include some occasional weekend or evening hours. May include travel to scientific meetings for educational purposes and/or for data presentations. Must be able to travel to all Knight worksite locations, including using the tram.
