Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Peer Support Specialist for the Community Outreach Services – Maternal Wraparound Program (M-WRAP) at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.
As a member of the Maternal Wraparound Program (M-WARP) team, the Peer Support Specialist III (Recovery) will provide nonclinical recovery support and peer coaching to the program participants. The Peer Support Specialist III (Recovery) uses lived experience and basic peer support skills to engage and empower individuals to improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and reach their full potential.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Uses his/her own lived experiences with pregnancy, parenting, and/or substance use recovery as a vehicle to establish rapport and build relationships with the person served and/or family member(s).
Meets individuals served in their homes and provides telephone support as per schedule developed with supervisor.
Participates in setting objectives for each goal and collaborates to determine recovery and wellness supports.
Assists the individual with gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery.
Works collaboratively with team members to ensure the individual engages in services for herself and her infant.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least three (3) years of relevant experience.
Must be certified or eligible for certification as a Peer Support Specialist or Family Advocate. If not certified, documented demonstrated progress toward completion of Peer Support Certification within 12 months.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Valid driver's license.
Must possess own vehicle or alternate means of transportation for use to outreach individuals served.
Experience with community-based service provisions to adults with addictions and/or pregnant women.
Bilingual skills (Spanish/English).
Must attend a three (3) day Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) State mandated training that delineates peer role functions, competencies, responsibilities and includes an orientation to DMHAS multiple treatment initiatives.
