The Department of Nursing at Vanguard University of Southern California invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the role of Simulation Lab Coordinator. The desired applicant is a visionary nursing faculty who is enthusiastic about creating and building an outstanding simulation-based learning program for a new pre-licensure program. This position functions under the supervision of the director (chair) and assistant director. Faculty are responsible for individual scholarship (e.g., independent research), university service, community service, and an appropriate teaching load. The pre-licensure program is currently approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Performs simulation course instruction in fulfillment of course clinical hours related to areas of content expertise (as approved by the BRN). At least one year of continuous, full-time experience in direct patient care practice as a registered nurse within the last five years is required.
Promotes students’ ability to achieve course, program and student learning outcomes through planning, implementing, and evaluating simulation-based learning activities.
Maintains regularly scheduled hours in the simulation lab per week in conjunction with scheduled lab courses and ensures weekly open lab time for skills practice and remediation.
Ensures a continuous evaluation process and quality improvement program for simulation-based activities and ensures that the simulation program is consistent with standards of best practice.
Assists with the set-up and take-down of simulation lab scenarios.
Anticipates purchasing needs for additional lab resources and submits timely accounting and budgetary requests. Orders all supplies necessary, including maintaining inventory, each semester for skills lab practice and simulation scenarios.
Ensures regular maintenance and appropriate warranties for computerized manikins and all lab equipment in accordance with service agreements, to keep all equipment in optimal working order.
Collaborates with course faculty in the continuous development of evidence-based simulation curriculum that facilitates the selection and implementation of simulation scenarios and learning activities appropriate to the achievement of program and course learning outcomes.
Provides orientation and continuing education for faculty related to simulation-based activities.
Maintains current expertise in simulation program utilization by regularly attending education/simulation conferences appropriate for the simulation lab coordinator role.
Establishes, models, and maintains an atmosphere of professional and Christian caring nursing behaviors in the simulation lab.
Oversees scheduling of classes amongst all department programs, using the Simulation Labs.
Other duties as assigned.
Must possess a master’s degree in Nursing; direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the assigned content areas; and have a current, unencumbered California RN license.
Three years of nursing experience required and previous undergraduate/graduate teaching experience.
Expert technical skills and computer experience required.
Candidates must have evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate education including student advisement and mentoring.
Must possess a vibrant Christian faith, and clear commitment to integration of faith and learning in student instruction and role modeling.
