This position is in the Department of Ophthalmology Clinical Practice. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
Provides technical and administrative support to the ophthalmologists and optometrists.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform visual diagnostic testing including, but not limited to, visual fields, tonometry, biometry, visual evoked potentials, fundus photos and optical coherence tomography.
Complete a comprehensive work-up for the ophthalmologists and optometrists.
Prepare a detailed medical patient history.
Explain and educated patients on physician’s diagnosis and instructions.
Assist physicians with minor surgical procedures and perform visual diagnostic testing.
Answer patient phone messages.
Maintain CPR or Basic Life Support certification.
Help foster our service culture of positivity and inclusion by maintaining a positive attitude with co-workers and excellent customer service.
Cross train to cover front desk as needed.
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification and two years of experience working in a medical office.
Completion of JCAHPO’s home study course within six months of employment.
COA after one year of supervised ophthalmologic office experience.
Extensive knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the eye, medical terminology and abbreviations.
Excellent communication and patient care skills.
Ability to express a caring attitude while performing tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
Ability to maintain patient information in a strict confidential manner.
The hiring range for this position is $14.44 - $17.70 per hour.

Position will be required to travel between the Children’s Specialty Care Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital up to 50% of the time.
