Maryland Institute for Policy, Analysis, and Research (MIPAR) is the grants administration unit housed in UMBC’s Center for Social Science Scholarship and assists faculty and departments in obtaining funding for research and providing pre- and post-award administration. MIPAR also provides a formal mechanism for linking the analytical resources of the university with policy makers in the state and throughout the nation, using the expertise of distinguished faculty from UMBC and other universities.
The Accountant will be a member of the MIPAR sponsored projects team. The accountant will be responsible for reconciling, reporting, analyzing, and assisting with financial review of grants for research faculty from pre-award to closeout. The accountant may assist in the submission of grant proposals including preparation of complex budgets.
Specific duties include: assisting with post-award activities to ensure compliance with sponsor guidelines, Uniformed Guidance and University policy: monitoring award finances; post-award analysis and projections; monthly reconciliation of sponsored awards; preparing adjustments and corrections to award budgets; preparing monthly reports to faculty; oversight of subawards; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree preferably in accounting, business or related field
Experience: Requires at least one year (two years preferred) of related experience. Strong accounting and computer skills including manipulating of Excel spreadsheets and Word are required. Must be self-directed, detail oriented, have excellent customer service and organizational skills.
Grant administration experience, knowledge of Uniformed Guidance, PeopleSoft, Kuali and University experience strongly desirable.
