In the second half of the twentieth century the development of imaging methods had a profound and transforming effect on the nature of diagnosis and thus the practice of medicine. In the last quarter of the century it was particularly the advances of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that led this revolution. Oregon Health & Science University has resolved to join the forefront of the progression of medical imaging into the twenty-first century. This has begun with the creation of the Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC) and its initial focus on MR imaging. The AIRC at OHSU has as its basic mission the advancement of medical imaging. With this charge it has become a center for cutting-edge research in imaging science. It is a research facility independent of existing departments at OHSU.
The primary function of this position is assisting with MR image analysis and learning about phases of a research project through working at the Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC). This position requires both in person interaction with human research subjects and focused computer work. An ideal candidate is a self-motivated, detail-oriented person who enjoys working with people and is eager to learn new skills to help achieve research objectives.
Train for and assist in data analysis of MRI images, specifically data requiring manual anatomical segmentation editing.
Assist with clinical study subjects: meeting, sitting with them in the MRI suite, getting lunch orders, and assuring their visits run smoothly.
Learn about clinical work, image analysis, and participate in clinical research discussions, assisting as ability and opportunity allows.
Bachelors Degree (4 yr) /No Experience, OR AA (2 yr) and 2 years of relevant experience, OR No degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Skills required in Microsoft and other basic office software.
Experience with technical software, preferably for image analysis.
Must be able to communicate clearly and efficiently by email, written text, phone, and in-person.
In regards to time, must be punctual and reliable.
Bachelors Degree (4 yr), with major courses in field of research.
Previous experience as a research assistant.
Previous experience with human subjects or patients in a clinical setting in addition to RA experience.
Basic knowledge of research coordination and good clinical practices.
Basic Life Support, CPR and AED
Experience working with children and families.
Must be able to work around very strong magnetic fields.
Must be able to spend periods of time in front of computer monitors.
Must be able to work with children.
