The Natelson group at Rice University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to conduct research on light emission in molecular-scale plasmon-based nanostructures. The researcher will be responsible for performing research on multiple interrelated projects and will assist in supervising students in the research. One project is to implement single-photon counting and time correlation spectroscopy to examine the mechanism of light emission from atomic-scale plasmonic tunnel junctions. A second planned set of experiments is to examine the energy and speed limitations of the recently discovered, greatly enhanced light emission of such junctions under combined electronic and optical excitation. A third project would examine emission processes in such junctions coupled to a gain medium. The researcher will be responsible for device fabrication; operation of optical and electronic measurement apparatus; collaborative experimental design and analysis of the resulting data; and collaborative writing of papers to publish the results.
