Associate Director, Foundation Financial Operations - (190001CK)
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Office of Philanthropy is currently recruiting for an Associate Director of Foundation Financial Operations . The Associate Director of Foundation Financial Operations primary work responsibilities are with the UMB Foundation, (UMBF, Inc.,). This individual is responsible for sharing in the higher level day-to-day operations of UMBF accounting team. Provide direction and leadership of accounting operations team through the development, enhancement, and guidance of its functions and staff members. Collaborate with upper level administrators within the business unit and throughout the campus to ensure the deliverance of high quality service in the oversight of all aspects of foundation financial accounting administration.

Manage day-to-day accounting functions with oversight of the General Ledger. Ensures funds are accurately documented/journalized and all related accounting is conducted in accordance with ethical principles, standards, following internal procedure, and in accordance with GAAP/FASB guidelines.
Set goals to enhance productivity and identify efficiencies. Recommend strategies to improve or adapt processes to enhance the functionality of the accounting software capabilities and other technology. Plan effective allocation of resources; anticipate and plan for peak times, quarterly reporting cycles, and tight annual regulatory compliance deadlines relating to FY end, preparation of Financial Statements, IRS Form 990.
Monitor progress of accounting staff and performs complex analyses related to foundation accounts, such as calculating endowment spendable income Prepare related spreadsheets and work papers for internal and external audit, financial statements, and IRS Form 990filings within specified deadlines. Proactively represents the foundation through participation in campus meetings and special projects as requested. Maintain strong relationships with account administrators throughout campus by ensuring accurate and up-to-date reports and materials are available.
Preparation of meeting materials for the foundation finance, audit committees and full board.
Serve as back up to Director of Financial Operations
Train and support staff by applying human resource principles in order to foster professionalism and a productive team oriented work environment.
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, and/or related field. Master's degree and/or CPA Certification preferred.
Experience: Six (6) years progressively building a background in the various financial functions, including at least three (3) years in financial operations in accounting and finance. Significant years of experience in Not For Profit Accounting strongly desired.
Two (2) years in a management/leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Accounting knowledge, experienced in reporting to many various regulatory bodies: Federal, State/University, University System and local.
Ability to meet designated deadlines and fulfill all requirements in order to fulfill commitment to accountability and transparency.
Ability to maintain and enhance knowledge base of changes to non profit accounting standards as well as FASB financial statement presentation standards.
Leadership, coaching, and teambuilding skills to strengthen and cultivate internal and external working relationships
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, and support effective partnerships with constituent USM institutions.
Ability to prioritize ongoing and new projects, solve problems and make decisions with minimal oversight.
