The Project Coordinator will manage the day-to-day operations and overall coordination of a Health Effects of Hydraulic Fracking Project. The Project Coordinator is a key position within this investigation as they will work closely with the investigators to organize and implement both aspects of the PADOH project. This will include but not be limited to, IRB writing and submission, data use agreements with hospitals and organizations supplying data,and pre-notification of potential controls for the study, and consenting of cases and controls for interview. The individual will have a minimum of a Master's degree in Epidemiology and Public Health with 3-5 years of experience with background in case control studies (interviewing and data acquisition) and other forms of health related projects.
The project has two parts, one an interviewer driven case control study of childhood cancer cases with a control population, and the other utilizing a secondary data source to determine the relationship of environmental factors and health outcomes related to hydraulic fracking. This will involve acquiring data on both asthma and birth outcomes. They will work with health agencies to outline data that will be needed, meet with appropriate staff about each project and keep the lines of communication open to detail the progress with each study. They will work with principal investigators in communicating with community leaders and media representatives at PADOH and UPITT, etc. as required. Database experience including excel, Microsoft access or equivalent database, SPSS, and other statistical packages necessary. They will establish the study's Standard Operation Procedures (SOP's), provide coordination of communication between staff and collaborating investigators (UPCI, Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, BCHS and EOH). The Project Coordinator will also provide training, supervision, and direction to junior staff on study-related tasks. Interviews will be conducted for the case control study by the Survey institute within BCHS department of the GSPH; however the Project director will have responsibility to work with PADOH and the UPCI cancer registry to identify the appropriate cases within the eight county area as well as identification of appropriate controls using birth certificate information through the PADOH. The time line of the study in phase one includes questionnaire completion, and IRB protocol preparation and consent procedures to be in place, phase two will be the acquisition of secure file transfer of electronic files of those who will receive request to participate, and phase three will culminate in the data collection and analysis.
This person will work closely with the principal investigators, data analyst and Graduate student researchers for this three year study to keep apprised of participant interviews document study visits, and supervise research staff in their day-to day study related duties under the direction of the Principal Investigator. This individual and work with the two graduate student researchers ( BIOSTAT, EPID, to create reports for weekly research meetings and scientific meetings, IRB, NIH and other related parties. The Project Coordinator will continually monitor study expenditures and keep to the study budget.
Master's Degree in a relevant field of research or substitution of additional relevant experience. Bachelor's degree with 6-10 years experience will be considered. Drivers license important as when COVID lifts there may be meetings in Harrisburg, and within the eight county community related to the position to maintain contact with the community for purposes of the study
