The Live Like Lou Center for ALS Research is a new initiative of the Live Like Lou Foundation and the Brain Institute at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The goal of this center is to study the molecular and cellular pathobiology of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) with the hope of developing new treatments that target these mechanisms. The basic science component of this center will be led by the laboratory of Christopher Donnelly, Ph.D, a faculty member in the department of neurobiology. The Donnelly lab utilizes induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) from ALS patients and differentiates them into human neurons and glia to understand dysfunctional pathways in ALS. The lab is currently hiring a research technician with experience in sterile tissue culture and molecular cloning.
The candidate will be expected to learn to prepare and maintain human iPSC cultures and differentiate them into CNS cell types (neurons, glia), aid in molecular cloning and assist in general lab duties (ordering, reagent preparation, molecular cloning, and biochemistry techniques). Previous work with iPSCs is preferred but not required. Any interested candidate should be expected to join a fast-paced, exciting, and highly collaborative environment. Occasional weekend iPSC work will be required but not regular.
Sterile tissue culture techniques preferred. Experience with iPSC is preferred but not required. Must have experience with molecular cloning and protein analysis (e.g. PCR, Western blot analysis) and immunoflourescent microscopy. Previous experience with rodent primary cultures preferred but not required.
The University of Pittsburgh is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and values equality of opportunity, human dignity and diversity. EOE, including disability/vets

One of three state-related research universities in Pennsylvania, Pitt is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), which comprises 62 preeminent doctorate-granting research institutions in North America.Pitt faculty members have expanded knowledge in the humanities and sciences, earning such prestigious honors as the National Medal of Science, the MacArthur Foundation’s “genius” grant, the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award, and election to the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine. Pitt scientists have defeated polio, unlocked the secrets of DNA, lead the world in organ transplantation, and pioneered TV and heavier-than-air flight, among numerous other accomplishments.Pitt students have earned Rhodes, Goldwater, Marshall, and Truman Scholarships, among other highly competitive national and international scholarships.Alumni have pioneered MRI and TV, won Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes, led corporations and universities, served in government and the military, conquered Hollywood and The New York Times bestsellers list, and won Super Bowls and NBA championships.
