The Director of Student Activities is a 12-month, live-in position responsible for the daily operation of campus life initiatives at Ashland University, in addition to managing several residential units. This position reports directly to the Dean of Students.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Pursues faculty/academic collaborations for programming and activities to encourage student and faculty interactions outside the classroom.
Advises the Campus Activities Board (CAB), the primary student programming organization. Primary responsibilities include supervision, selection, contract negotiation, program implementation and evaluation. In addition, the advisor assists in recruitment, selection, training, disciplinary procedures and holistic development of CAB members and attends campus events.
Advises the Technical Productions Crew, the student led organization whose main function is to provide sound, stage and lighting for campus programs.
Coordinates/plans, implements and evaluates traditional campus events including: Welcome Tent, Food Truck Festival, Homecoming and Family Weekend, Springfest, etc.
Assists Dean of Students with orientation programs - planning logistics, assisting with communication (phone calls, emails, mailings), and serving as support during the implementation of orientation initiatives.
Supervises undergraduate intern and graduate assistant, as applicable.
Hosts Programming Team meetings and maintains programming calendar.
Assists with the promotion and utilization of Engage Ashland platform.
Other duties as assigned.
Lives-in and manages campus residential unit(s) as assigned and supervises RA staff.
Participates in annual training for live-in staff. Attends all staff meetings, retreats, in-services, and professional development opportunities.
Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates ARD/RA staff.
Enforces policies of the university as it relates to housing and student conduct within assigned residential unit(s). Holds administrative hearings to address conduct concerns, as needed.
Ensures appropriate check-in/out, health/safety, work orders, room changes, and emergency procedures are followed.
Serves as a resource to ARD/RA staff with regard to programming, roommate conflicts, student conduct, etc.
Serves as liaison to Safety Services, Facilities, and Building Services staff for residential unit(s).
Develops and monitors budgets related to assigned residential unit(s).
Contributes to on-call rotation and emergency/crisis response.
Other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in higher education administration or related field required.
Minimum two (2) years higher education experience.
Prior professional experience in student programming, residence life and student conduct responsibilities are preferred.
Effective use of organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through.
Excellent customer service skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Maintains confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
Ability to work as an individual and as a member of a team.
Serves as a responsible employee and Title IX mandatory reporter.
