Overview The course introduces the basic principles and methods of epidemiology and demonstrates its applicability in the field of public health. Topics to be covered include the historical perspective of epidemiology, ethics in epidemiology, measures of disease occurrence and association, study design, screening for disease in a population, causal inference, error, bias and confounding. Students will also learn to evaluate and interpret epidemiological literature.
Responsibilities Attend lectures Conduct weekly office hours to review homework Support exam review sessions before midterm and final exams Respond to professor and students emails in a timely manner Provide timely written feedback to students (individual comments, meet with them as needed) Report on common student errors or difficulties Maintain grade records Hold regular office hours Supports students who need further explanation of concepts remind them of the variety of resources available to them
Qualifications Masters degree in relevant field completed or in progress Introductory and advanced level courses in Epidemiology Experience using Canvas or a similar course management tool Extremely well-organized, self-starter Patient and creative with students as they learn new concepts Meets deadlines and responds on-time to requests Excellent written and oral communication skills Team player who can also work independently
