Overview The Clinical Coordinator/Principle Faculty is a member of the Touro University California faculty and more specifically, the College of Education and Health Sciences Joint Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies/Master of Public Health Program. Primary responsibilities are split between the clinical and didactic phases of student education. They include both didactic and clinical phase instruction and evaluation of students which includes rotation site visits, serving as a student advisor, assisting in curriculum development, and serving as a member of committees essential to the functioning of the Program. Allotted time distribution will be approximately 60% for the clinical and 40% for the didactic phases.
Responsibilities 1. In conjunction with the Program Director and Joint MSPAS/MPH Faculty, participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum in relation to the ARC-PA Accreditation Standards and the Programs mission, goals, and objectives. a. Participate in the development and achievement of the philosophy, goals and competency-based instructional objectives of the Program. b. Assist in identifying core knowledge, skills and attitudes requisite to development of the competencies required for successful completion of board examinations and safe practice at the time of entry to the profession. c. Participate in the development and implementation of all aspects of the didactic and clinical curriculum. d. Assist in the creation, development and implementation of terminal goals and learning objectives for each course of study, to include the didactic and clinical phases. e. Participate in the ongoing Self Study activities f. Serve as course coordinator for assigned courses which includes developing, organizing, delivery (teaching) and evaluation of course content and objectives and the guidance and management of adjunct faculty or lecturers involved in those courses g. Develop and deliver lecture and laboratory material content that meet course objectives. h. Develop and implement evaluation tools to assess the students knowledge of course content as outlined in the course objectives. i. Serve as a member of Program committees. j. Attend and participate in Program related activities and functions such as graduation and white coat ceremonies. k. Provide remediation as needed for students with sub-standard performance l. Advise the program director and other appropriate individuals of any problems related to behavior, academics or professionalism. 2. Participate in scholarly and research activities to professional groups and journals. 3. Participate in faculty development activities and faculty development retreats and seminars.
PERIODIC TASKS INCLUDE: 1. Participate in faculty directed activities to integrate the Program within the University. a. Attend Faculty Senate meetings b. Participate in other University committees as directed and needed 2. Participate as a member of the Admissions Committee in the identification and recruitment of qualified applicants and their enrollment as students in the Program in collaboration with the Admissions Office and Program faculty. 3. Assist with the development of short and long range strategic plans 4. Assist with design specifications and improvements to Program resources, supplies, space and equipment 5. Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations to ensure Program excellence and appropriateness of curriculum and instruction 6. Participate in the identification and recruitment of suitable faculty and staff to be involved in the administrative operations of the Program.
Specific Ongoing Tasks Clinical Coordinator Direct supervision for these tasks by the Director of Clinical Education with oversight by the Program Director. 1. Participate in the development and implementation of all aspects of the clinical curriculum. a. Assist in developing learning/task objectives and an evaluative tool for each rotation b. Assist with student education and evaluation during the clinical curriculum. i. Perform site visits and evaluations of students on clinical rotations ii. Participate in Call Backs iii. Clinical assignment evaluation iv. Identify and bring to the attention of the Director of Clinical Education and Program Director, those students who are not performing satisfactorily in their clinical experiences. 2. Participate as an active member of the Clinical Curriculum Committee 3. Participate in the clinical site identification, recruitment, evaluation and maintenance a. Recruitment of clinical placement sites, including presentations and program advocacy b. Initiate and develop agreements and/or contracts with clinical affiliates, instructors, and preceptors who will be involved in the training of Joint students in the ambulatory and in-patient setting. c. Monitor clinical sites to ensure course objectives are being met. d. Provide preceptor training as needed e. Function as a liaison between the clinical sites and the Joint Program.
Qualifications If a PA, the following are required o Current NCCPA certification o Masters degree o Eligibility for licensure in the state of California If a physician, the following are required o Graduation from a US accredited medical school o Completion of an appropriate residency o Eligibility for licensure in the state of California The following are preferred o Board Certification o Eligibility for licensure in the state of California The ability to travel (same day and multiple days) for site visits and site recruitment is required. A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience and 2 years of teaching experience is preferred. An interest in public health is beneficial.
CORE COMPETENCIES: Excellent written and oral communication skills required Punctuality and close attention to meeting deadlines is required. Ability to work collaboratively as a team with other Program and University faculty and colleagues is essential. Applicants must be detail oriented, out-going and a self-starter.
