The USC School of Pharmacy seeks a dynamic and highly-experienced Assistant Director, Career and Academic Counseling to join its team.Â
This position serves in support of, and under the direction of, the Director of Student Success and Engagement, and addresses the needs of approximately 800 PharmD students. Additionally, this position will coordinate closely with members of the Office of Enrollment and Student Affairs, who serve under the Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs.
The general scope of services includes all of those areas that contribute to student success within the PharmD Program.Â It is expected that the Assistant Director, Career and Academic Counseling will manage these, and other responsibilities either directly or through supervision of reporting staff members. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following general areas:
Attend meetings and work directly with Director of Student Success and Engagement to ensure development and success of student affairs departmentÂ
Manage major aspects of career counseling and support for PharmD students, including but not limited to:
manage the USC School of Pharmacy career fairs and connectSC programÂ
work in collaboration with USC residency program directors to prepare students for post-graduate training
develop PharmD alumni network through partnership with Development Office
arrange workshops and events focused on career preparation, alumni networking, and professional development, through partnerships with faculty, student organizations, and other university departments
Coordinate with PharmD PEP office for IPPE and APPE assignments each semester.
create and track alumni network database, as well as various online platforms (e.g., USC Trojan Network, LinkedIn group)
research and maintain current information regarding labor market trends and occupational outlook for the field of pharmacy
manage the Pharmacy Examination for Licensure application process for all graduating PharmD students in concert with the California State Board of Pharmacy.
Assist the day-to-day academic counseling process for PharmD students, including but not limited to:
provide advisement regarding d-clearances, course registrations, academic progress, and course and degree requirements.
maintain student records and apply courses at the end of each semester.
track progress of students, especially students at-risk and delayed in progress.
process leave of absence requests, grade changes, and other petitions.
serve as students liaison to other university departments, including registrar, financial aid, office of international services, student health center, and disability services & programs.
Other Related Duties:
Participate in team meetings with the Office of Enrollment and Student Affairs, and provide additional support as necessary
Assist in various programming events including, but not limited to, orientation, white coat ceremony, and commencement.
Perform other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Student Success and Engagement
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 3 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related experience in career counseling, student services, and programming
Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively and critical problem-solving skills
Preferred Minimum Qualifications:Â
Terminal Degree (in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, psychology or public administration.)
Student advising, career counseling, student leadership and mentoring experience.
Demonstrate experience and commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
Experience with academic software (Blackboard, student information systems, registration/grading/clearance programs, career counseling software, etc.)
Experience with graduate and/or professional programs a plus.
