There is an open post-doctoral position in the laboratory of Samuel Young at The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Iowa City, IA. https://young.lab.uiowa.edu/ Twitter @samyounglab The Young laboratory is focused on the fundamental question: How do synapses enable neuronal circuits to transmit a wide diversity of information? Outcomes from our work will define the molecular principles that govern how synaptic properties drive neuronal circuit output and underpins organism behavior.
The laboratory uses an integrated approach that centers on using viral vector technology, electrophysiological and biophysical methods, biochemistry, light and electron microscopy techniques in conjunction with transgenic mice. Finally, Dr. Young is committed to the career development of trainees as previous postdoctoral fellows have successfully continued their careers in academia and industry. Two major areas of research focus are
Molecular mechanisms regulating auditory information processing. The goal of this project is to understand the molecular mechanisms of synaptic vesicle release that permit the accurate encoding of sound information.
Presynaptic CaV2 channel function. The goal of this project is to reveal the molecular mechanisms that regulate presynaptic CaV2 channel function and their role in regulating synaptic transmission throughout neuronal circuit development in the mammalian central nervous system.
Candidates must have a PhD in a related scientific discipline and at least one first author publication. We are looking for candidates with background in one of these areas: proteomics, electrophysiology, microscopy, or advanced molecular biology, or auditory behavior tasks.
