Uses critical thinking skills to develop an effective PES statement, a plan of care and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of that care
Collaborates with and facilitates patients/family/caregiver/client's active participation in establishing and implementing the plan of care
Collaborates and confers with other professionals in monitoring and evaluating care.
Communicates nutrition recommendations effectively to the medical staff and care team verbally, in rounds, at interdisciplinary care meetings and via electronic medical record
Evaluates the patient nutritional related education needs. Provides education and helps patients/clients to identify and secure appropriate and available resources and services.
Develops and/or revises educational materials, guidelines, protocols and other resources to support clinical practice.
Effectively applies or participates in research to enhance practice. Has knowledge of research techniques, reviews research and reports findings for their application to dietetics practice.
Supervises the clinical nutrition functions of the registered dietetic technicians. Mentors clinical staff in the provision of care.
Acts as a preceptor for student RD/DTR training programs as needed.
Represents the Clinical Nutrition Section and department in a positive manner at meetings, committees, and other Health Systems activities.
Collaborates with physicians in developing and participating in medical staff training programs.
Provides input on policy development and revision.
Contributes to continuous quality improvement and takes initiative on quality improvement issues.
Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of practice and revises practice as needed to incorporate the results of evaluation. Exhibits professionalism in actions and fosters excellence and best practice. Maintains current knowledge of and follows all legislation and licensure requirements.
Complies with all medical center and division policies and procedures. Maintains own competencies for the purpose of maintaining registration with the professional development to improve knowledge and enhance professional competence.
Identifies safety concern in the age related population and institute additional measures to provide safe environment, identifies developmental milestones in the patient population(s) served.

Adheres to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Revised Standards of Practice in Nutrition Care and Standards of Professional Performance for Registered Dietitian as applicable to the clinical setting. Adheres to the AND code of ethics for the profession of dietetics.
