Detailed Job Description The Remote Collections and Lending Specialist is responsible for the Lending and Document Delivery portions of Interlibrary Loan, and overseeing collections held by RIT Libraries outside of Wallace Library. This includes our offsite storage facility on the RIT campus as well as any additional storage locations used for library materials. The Remote Collections and Lending Specialist will develop, implement, and document the workflows necessary to move selected books into offsite storage facilities and deliver items to patrons at RIT and other libraries upon request. The Remote Collections and Lending Specialist will oversee the accession of items into a high density storage facility, including the implementation of software for retrieval, inventorying of those items, and training and supervising of student employees. The person in this position will work closely with library staff to decide which materials should be withdrawn from the collection or moved to another location. This position has the primary responsibility for lending library materials to other libraries using ILLiad, INN-Reach, Caiasoft, and other platforms. The person in this position will work closely with colleagues in RIT Libraries IDS, Circulation, Research & Instruction Services, and special collections departments to facilitate delivery of requested books to and from the library within promised service standards. The Remote Collections and Lending Specialist will monitor environmental conditions in our storage facilities and implement strategies to maintain environmental standards for the preservation of library collections. In collaboration with library leadership, the Remote Collections and Lending Specialist will be responsible for identifying additional storage locations as the need arises, and implementing the workflows needed to move materials into storage and make them available to patrons upon request.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree plus two years of experience in a library working with an ILS OR an MLS.
Excellent written communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to move up to 50 lbs. of books
PLEASE NOTE: The individual hired for this position will be required to have a pre-employment Motor Vehicle check, and the Motor Vehicle Report must clear RIT's Safe Driving Policy (please refer to page 4) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Library work experience, especially in an academic library
Experience working with an ILS (Integrated Library System)
Experience with interlibrary loan systems (ILLiad, Tipasa, etc.) at an academic library
