Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) seeks an energetic and experienced Academic Advisor to provide comprehensive and intensive enrollment and advising services as part of the Admissions and Advising Center with the goal of improving student success. *Duties and Responsibilities*: The Academic Advisor will have a comprehensive knowledge of all college policies and procedures, including the application, enrollment, placement, and orientation processes. In addition to providing a wide range of pre-enrollment services for new students, the advisor will also provide advising for current students in all educational programs by appointment and on a walk-in basis. The advisor will have a comprehensive knowledge of all transfer, occupational/technical, and workforce services programs offered at the College. The advisor will have the responsibility of assisting students with their needs and concerns, and will help students monitor their progress toward successful attainment of their educational goals. *Specific responsibilities and functions include*: •Work with all new students on all phases of the enrollment process, from application, to placement, to registration and payment •Orient students to the on-line application process and help students complete the application as needed •Assist students in choosing a course of study/educational program that reflects their interests and skills •Assist students with their needs and concerns •Refer students to support services such as counseling, financial aid, and tutoring, and to appropriate academic support services •Orient students to the placement testing process and reviews placement test scores when appropriate •Support new students throughout the registration process •Alert the Dean of Student Services and the Director of Advising and Transfer Programs to issues and student concerns that may affect both access and enrollment •Review curricular plans with all students •Provide advising and planning for all programs at the College •Provide transfer planning and advising, including information on guaranteed admissions and articulation agreements •Help students create a formal advising plan •Review student transcripts and prior academic work •Monitor students academic progress and academic momentum •Provide students assistance with transfer applications •Assist students with graduation requirements
*Minimum Qualifications*: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field from an accredited institution or equivalent experience; Experience in a higher education environment; Commitment to the community college mission; Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, interests, and abilities; Ability to work in a dynamic student environment and with a diverse student population; Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; Outstanding leadership and organizational skills; A focus on student success.
