The University of Chicago's Department of Surgery, Section of Cardiac Surgery, is searching for a full-time associate or full professor. The successful applicant will be a national leader in advanced heart failure, transplant and mechanical circulatory support. In addition, this individual will assume key strategic and clinical roles in cardiovascular surgical services in a growing set of regional affiliated hospitals in the suburbs of Chicago. We are searching for an experienced leader engaged in building and enhancing cardiac research, scholarship and advancing the scope of cardiac and cardiovascular surgery. The successful candidate will have comprehensive administrative leadership experience and will identify and develop strategic collaborative initiatives with cardiac and thoracic surgeons, physicians, and associates that advance the goals of consistent excellent quality of care and outcomes, cutting edge surgical procedures, and enriching an academic environment for education, training and research for both cardiac and cardiovascular surgery. This individual will provide leadership that will ensure clinical excellence and growth for all cardiac programs. They will also provide operational leadership and will work closely with the Department of Surgery and the Heart and Vascular Center on strategic initiatives. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity. We especially welcome applicants with comprehensive administrative experience and the ability to begin employment during calendar year 2020. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, 3) be Board certified or eligible by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery or equivalent, and 4) have completed an accredited fellowship or equivalent training in Cardiac Surgery.
