The Center for Craniofacial Regeneration (CCR) at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Dental Medicine (SDM) seeks a Research Technician to perform funded research on temporomandibular joint regeneration. The position begins in early Oct 2020. The candidate should have interest in skeletal biology and/or skeletal tissue engineering, preferably with some knowledge of polymer chemistry / materials science and quantitative analysis of tissues. The successful candidate will perform polymer synthesis with protocol optimization, manufacturing of (hydrogels/sponges), quantification of drug release from scaffolds, mammalian and bacterial cultures, participate in animal studies, and analyze regenerate tissue composition and function. The candidate will plan and carry out experiments with the investigators, troubleshoot protocols and techniques, analyze data, and prepare abstracts and manuscripts. The individual will benefit from the unique working and training environment of the CCR. The CCR is comprised of a diverse team of clinicians and basic scientists, and is a joint center between the SDM and the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
Master's required. PhD is preferred and may compensate for fewer years of relevant experience, per University guidelines. Interest and/or experience in skeletal biology and/or skeletal tissue engineering, including working knowledge of immunology and biomaterials, cell biology, and biomechanics.
