TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a 10-month, full-time on campus administrative appointment reporting to the Assistant Dean for Career Development and Civic Engagement.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Working under the general supervision of the assistant dean for career development and civic engagement, the assistant director has primary responsibility for development and coordination of assisting students in clarifying academic and career goals through individual career counseling, including the administration and interpretation of career inventories (e.g., MBTI, and College Majors Scorecard). The assistant director participates in the design and delivery of career-related workshops, programs, class presentations, and panels and helps students develop and refine resume-writing, interviewing, and job-search skills in addition to advising and coaching students interested in graduate school, including investigating programs, reviewing admissions essays, making connections and presenting related programming on campus. Responsibilities include the development and maintenance of social media accounts as they relate to employment opportunities and sharing success stories. The assistant director also assists with: planning, hosting, and promoting events and data gathering and management including assessment of career services and outcomes of graduates.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT AT CENTRAL COLLEGE: Students work daily with the dynamic staff in to develop resumes, apply for internships (including internships through programs in Chicago and Washington, D.C.), prepare for graduate school, interview for jobs, and consider their future career. Staff work with businesses, alumni, faculty, and students to provide a rich and rewarding developmental approach to career exploration and advising. Over 75% of Central students participate in at least one internship prior to graduation; over 96% are employed, in graduate school, or completing service one year after graduation.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) with at least three years of experience in career development, higher education, or a similar field. Experience in career coaching is beneficial. The ability to collaborate effectively with students as well as with faculty, staff, alumni, and recruiters is essential. The position includes evening and occasional weekend participation for workshops, training, orientation, etc.
