Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Staff Associate II – Lab Manager position is available in the Danino laboratory at Columbia University Biomedical Engineering Department. The goals for the position is to manage laboratory operations and assist in new project administration. The laboratory's research broadly includes synthetic biology, quantitative biology, and cancer. Two primary areas of interest are in engineering of dynamic gene circuits and microbial diagnostics/therapeutics for cancer and other diseases. Duties and Responsibilities will include: Organize and catalogue materials for bacteria bank, cell bank, and materials of the Danino lab (10%); Identify and distribute bio-samples to lab members for research studies; Distribute samples to external collaborators or for external requests (10%); Perform basic molecular and cell biology experiments such as cell culture, cloning, transfection, mutagenesis, PCR, western blot, immunophenotyping (20%); Work closely with the Principal Investigators, lab members and other researchers to ensure smooth operations of the Danino lab (20%); Assist in maintenance of research laboratory supplies inventory by anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies (10%); Providing support for several tasks for the Principal Investigator; These include organization of lab meetings, events, grant submissions, and other duties (10%); Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed (10%); Coordination with the BME department and other entities at Columbia when necessary (10%). This person will oversee lab budget / expenses and will need access to financial / budget systems. They will not have signatory authority, but will work closely with the PI in both pre-award and post-award grant and management. Employee will be involved in overseeing the continuous operation of laboratory equipment, maintenance, and services in both normal operation and emergency scenarios, including freezers and cell culture. The position directly supervises the activities of a Work Study student.
