The Authentication Engineer works with various Information Technology teams throughout the institution to protect university assets with the use of Identity and Access Management and tools, policies and procedures, and standard security methodologies. The Authentication Engineer will also work with Information Technology (IT), Business Units (BU), and International teams to integrate applications into Identity and Access Management systems such as Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, CyberArk Privileged Account Management, Ping Single Sign-On, Duo Multi-Factor Authentication, and other IAM technologies.

The Application Development & Integration team is comprised of three distinct Work Units, all of which contain the same family of position/position descriptions. For all three Work Units, the key functions of the positions are the same, with the only variation being the actual subject area focus of the applications. The three subject areas of focus are as follows:
Duties and Responsibilties
Use expertise to assess, design, deploy, and maintain high performance and scalable identity management systems to ensure the security of the institution
Create and maintain system documentation for identity and access management technologies, including installation, configuration, and appropriate troubleshooting steps
Work in solution implementations, upgrades, enhancement and conversions involving identity and access management software such as CyberArk, Duo, Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Azure Security tools, AWS, etc.
Utilize security tools to monitor and protect user accounts from unapproved use
Craft and maintain documented standards, processes and procedures, aligning to university culture, policy and standard methodologies, as well as develop user guides and functional documentation as needed
Responsible for developing and driving adoption of best practices around security identity and access management
Explore new secure identity technologies through testing, rating and reporting on various potential solutions, with the objective of recommending the best solution for the current environment
Cultivate robust and sustainable working relationships between Security, business, and technology teams to foster a cross-functional team environment
