We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated individual for a Research Technician position in a vascular genetics laboratory in the Internal Medicine Department, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Michigan Medicine. The candidate will become a member of a collaborative research lab involved in the identification and functional analysis of genetic factors contributing to cardiovascular diseases. The candidate’s role will be to assist under supervision in doing functional in vitro assays to follow up on genetic targets that have been identified, and assist with in vivo analyses. In addition, there will be a role for assistance in managing the various mouse colonies. The individual for this position will possess exceptional organizational skills and a sharp attention to detail.
Experiments may include: standard molecular biology techniques including cell culture, ICC, IHC, protein isolation, running of Westerns, DNA/RNA isolations, PCR, and qPCR.
Mouse colony management includes: tagging mice and ear-clipping for genotyping; tail genomic DNA isolation, genotyping mice using PCR; assist in maintaining the breeding colonies; updating the detailed database of mouse lines.
General lab management includes keeping detailed and accurate record of your experiments and updating all databases.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in biological science or related health field
Previous experience with molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and mouse handling is highly desired.
Must be detail-oriented, highly responsible, and possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research team.
Intermediate Level: 1-3 years of experience in a research laboratory
Associate Level: Up to 1 year of experience in a research laboratory
Familiarity with University research policies and procedures.
