Cornell University, an Ivy League institution with an undergraduate enrollment of over 15,000 students, in eight different schools and colleges, seeks an Associate Director for Financial Aid Counseling in the Office of Financial Aid (https://finaid.cornell.edu).
As part of the Enrollment division, the Office of Financial Aid is comprised of a team of 34 financial aid professionals dedicated to help students navigate the complex landscape of financial aid. Cornell is proud of our extensive financial aid programs that help students and their families turn the dream of a Cornell education into a reality. Cornell University meets full demonstrated financial need and about half of all undergraduate students receive substantial financial aid in the form of Cornell grants. Toward this goal, we work closely with Cornell's Office of the University Registrar, Undergraduate Admissions Office, and Office of the Bursar.
The role of the Associate Director includes dynamic leadership over a team of counselors performing eligibility analysis and awarding of institutional, state and federal financial aid while advising undergraduate students and families on the financial aid process. In addition, the Associate Director for Financial Aid Counseling participates in strategic planning and thought leadership for the design and coordination of training and professional development within the Office of Financial Aid.

You, as Associate Director for Financial Aid Counseling, will play a key role in serving as a member of the Financial Aid leadership team providing supervision and training for the financial aid counselors while participating in strategic planning and thought leadership through the lens of a student centered financial services model.

Bachelor's degree required with 5-7 years of experience in financial aid or other student services area or equivalent combination.
Knowledge of financial aid systems including COD, NSLDS, and CPS.
Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to build and motivate a team.
Requires excellent communication skills and strong analytical ability. Attention to detail and confidentiality are essential.
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of federal student aid rules and regulations.
A proven ability to supervise and manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to new priorities, and be responsive as projects and needs evolve in a fast paced environment with minimal direction; while also collaborating effectively as part of a diverse team.
Candidates should expect in-depth contact with students and families via e-mail, telephone and in-person; and demonstrate success in managing these communications with skill and finesse.
Excellent leadership and relationship building skills and ability to interact collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in a large, complex and decentralized university environment.
A Master's degree in higher education administration, student development administration, or business administration is preferred.
Professional-level experience in financial aid or other area of student affairs administration is also preferred.
Knowledge and experience with Institutional Methodology using the College Board PROFILE preferred.
Experience with PeopleSoft is desirable although training will be provided if necessary.
